James Murphy is apparently sticking to his plan to retire LCD Soundsystem as a touring band. Over the weekend, the dance-punk band announced on their website that they will be playing their “last show ever” on April 2, 2011, at New York City’s Madison Square Gardens.
According to the statement, “for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly three hours-playing stuff we’ve never played before”.
“If it’s a funeral, let’s have the best funeral ever!!!,” the message concludes.
The seminal post-disco band Liquid Liquid is set to open the show and LCD Soundsystem requests all attendees wear white, black or black and white attire. Details for pre-sale tickets will be on lcdsoundsystem.com on Tuesday, Feb. 8, and general onsale tickets begin on Friday, Feb. 11.
Here’s hoping LCD’s official video blogger Jay Green covers the festivity (check him out in all his glory in the accompanying clip).
