Moa Bones – “Take It All Away” (audio) (Premiere)

"Take It All Away" may evoke tumbleweeds pitter-pattering across American desert landscapes, but it's the creation of the Greek folk musician Moa Bones.

A true transcontinental affair, Spun, the latest LP by the Greek folk musician Moa Bones (aka Dimitris Aronis), reeks of dust, tumbleweeds, and the cawing of desert crows. From the sound of his music, Moa Bones sounds like he was born and raised in a John Ford film, but his actual home is Greece, where he crafts his distinct take on American music. Spun is being billed as containing “extracts of a five-year mini autobiography”; for one such extract, check out the dusky noir of “Take It All Away”, which you can stream exclusively below.

Moa Bones tells PopMatters, “This one is the oldest song compared with the rest of Spun album. It was written during an intense period of changes. Those days, it felt like I was heading on for something new, gaining knowledge from some bad past moments. One day, I was in a bar in downtown Athens with a friend, drinking and talking all night long. At some point she gave me a very nice present: a fantastic poem she had written called ‘The fairy tales of fire’; it [became] an inspiration for this song.”

Spun is out on 25 May on CD and digital, with a vinyl release set for some time in July, through Inner Ear Records.
