The Sweeplings – ‘Rise and Fall’ (album stream) (premiere)

A chance meeting thanks to a reality show brought two artists together and yielded a beautiful Americana album.

How the Sweeplings came to be is unusual, but in keeping with contemporary culture. Singer-songwriter Whitney Dean was watching America’s Got Talent at home in Huntsville, Alabama, and was entranced by the vocal talent of finalist and Spokeane, Washington resident Cami Bradley. At his wife’s urging he flew out to meet Bradley in Spokane, the musicians clicked, and the end result is Rise and Fall, a combination of Americana grit and Southern soul, brought forth by Bradley’s dulcet voice.

“This album to me, feels special,” Dean says. “I feel like we truly formed our musical identity with it, and crafted songs that matter, something that has a timeless sense to it, a cinematic sonic quality but yet still falling into the veins of modern folk… ‘Rise and Fall’ mirrors life in some ways to us, and the reason we named it that (not only pulling from the lyrics of ‘Hold Me’) but that in life we all have highs and lows, love and loss, and this collection of songs paints the musical picture of that experience in a romantically melancholy way yet in a song format that’s easily digestible to the listener.”

Bradley adds, “Every song on the record was written in the last year. The stories of people and places, loss and love are fresh and raw. They are the soundtrack of who I am and who we are becoming.”
