Originally starting out as an extension of the great Supersilent, Norway’s Puma has since evolved into an improvisational rock monolith in the grand tradition of Lark’s Tongues in Aspic-era King Crimson. On their third album and debut on the Rune Grammofon imprint, the super trio of Jaga Jazzist’s Ǿysten Moen, Gard Nilssen from Bushman’s Revenge and celebrated guitar adventurist Stian Wseterhus furthers its fusion of electronics, free jazz and progressive rock on nine new tracks that serve as the group’s most accomplished work to date. Despite its name, Half Nelson Courtship sounds more like a swinging full nelson on the senses.
