Denmark-based musician/DJ/producer Peder might not be a household name in the United States, but some of the acts with whom he’s collaborated in the past include such well-established icons of groove as Beastie Boys and DJ Krush. His work also has been featured on such venerated record labels as Ninja Tune, Mo Wax and Ubiquity. On Dirt & Gold, the man proves why he’s privy to such good company. Across the baker’s dozen tracks on this second album, Peder combines the sum of his most recent listening choices into his uniquely honed beat stew, from the kitchen sink blues rock of Tom Waits to the quick-witted fingerpicking of Chet Atkins, from the tremolo-drenched surf guitar of the Ventures to the eerie electric organ of Italian film score greats Goblin, it’s all here The music is further enhanced by the creative input of a bevy of guest vocalists, including Oh Land, Signe Marie Schmidt-Jacobson, Rasmus Olsen, Jacob Bellens and Claus Hempler, all of whom add a nice prism of intriguing colors to this already beguiling work of modern day head-nodding.
