Roots rock label Bloodshot Records celebrated its 15th anniversary back in 2009 with a day-long concert in Chicago that featured a dozen of the label’s acts. This disc is a treat for roots rock fans, opening with the old-timey “EZ Ridin’ Grumblers”, courtesy of Sanctified Grumblers, then moving on to the show proper. Sally Timms and Jon Langford contribute a pair of downtempo, accordion-based tunes before the Blacks and, later, Bobby Bare Jr noise it up with their own brands of chugging guitar rock.
The second half of the album turns up the intensity, with Scott H. Biram’s manic-distortion “Truck Driver” threatening to fly off the rails. The early Rolling Stones — excuse me, I mean the Deadstring Brothers — contribute a pair of wistful tunes that sound like outtakes from Exile on Main Street. Alejandro Escovedo’s rip-snorting “Castanets” might be the highlight of the whole set.
There are plenty of other musicians and songs here — 19 tracks on a single disc — and over 70 minutes of music. Bloodshot is a great label, which is proven again here, for No One Got Hurt is a collection that any roots rock enthusiast should enjoy like an ice cold beer on a sweltering summer day.
