The core of Salli Lunn’s A Frame of Reference features remixes from the Danish noise collective’s album Heresy and Rite, rounded out by the previously unreleased “50 Kisses” and “White Site”. A Frame of Reference may be the apathetic shrug moment of the year. Opening track “Mirror Girl” (remixed by Scott Solter) would be unimpressive even as the Nine Inch Nails outtake it wants to be, while “Parachutes Forever” takes nearly six minutes of your life you will never see again. “The First Cause” (the radio edit) is unimpressive, prog-influenced murk, as is “50 Kisses”. “The Invention of Steel” offers some reprieve from the mind-numbing monotony, at least for the first two minutes, but even that devolves into an insufferable experiment in time wasting. What, exactly, was the point of releasing this?
