Former Miss Mississippi Kristian Dambrino delivers her debut album, a 29-minute, nine song slab of nicely textured cooing and ooing without much in the way of depth. It’s pretty to listen to but not all that revealing or memorable. Often the lyrics come off as first draft scraps from journals (“I Want Everything”) or thoughts/metaphors that haven’t reached fruition (“Original Face”). All this makes for messy, disconcerting listening. Dambrino has a powerful voice, an impressive range, and a host of impressive players backing her, but none of that can carry the record across the victory line. Little of this is offensively bad but “Kissing October” comes close with its rambling, paint-by-numbers lyrics.
