Garbage Debuts “Blood for Poppies” Video from New Album

Long before there was Garage Band, there was the band Garbage. Begun in Madison, Wisconsin in 1994, the alternative rock group has since stormed the globe with popular singles like “Stupid Girl”, “I Think I’m Paranoid” and “Push It” — and four successful albums. The four-person band, vocalist Shirley Manson and musicians Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig, has garnered much critical attention, as well as popularity with fans. They even co-produced and performed the theme song for The World is Not Enough, the 19th film in the James Bond franchise. Now, coming off a prolonged hiatus, Garbage is ready to debut their fifth album, Not Your Kind of People. Though the full album, produced by the band’s own STUNVOLUME label, is not due out until 15 May, here fans are treated to a taste of what they can expect in the band’s highly anticipated new LP.

In their 3 April press conference via Ustream chat, Garbage announced the world premiere of the music video for new single “Blood for Poppies”. The video, below, shot on location in Los Angeles is directed by fashion photographer and filmmaker Matt Irwin, and draws inspiration from great visual artists like Magritte, Maya Deren and Luis Brunel. Shot in black and white, it’s a beautiful compilation of stunning images and visual tricks; recalling touches of old Hollywood glamor while paying tribute to the elegant style of film noir.

Enjoy this artfully directed and crafted video below, and be on the lookout for Not Your Kind of People, as well as for the band’s upcoming spring tour, which begins April 9th in Los Angeles.
