Deniz Kurtel: The Way We Live

House music and EDM have been slowly intertwining for the past few years and there haven’t been as many to navigate that genre crossover as well as Deniz Kurtel. Unfortunately, those are two of the most bland and lifeless genres to listen to without the context of a packed club, sweaty dance floor, and a heavy dose of MDMA. Live, this music might be fun. On record it’s the most senselessly repetitive and uninspired thing to happen to contemporary art since its conception.

While Kurtel does have sense enough to throw in some unexpected twists here and there, it’s never enough to elevate the listener’s attention beyond the realms of passing interest, and that interest does pass, quickly. If you’re looking to throw a sweat-drenched drug-fueled party, by all means throw this LP on, but if you’re looking for intelligent music, keep moving and don’t look back — you’ll only be disappointed.
