Though Nathan Thelen (formerly of Pretty Girls Make Graves) is at the head of these recordings, they sound nothing like what you’d expect. They sound better. All six of Drug Cabin‘s tracks come across as completely organic and rooted in emotion and, to some extent, tradition. Influences weave in and out of Drug Cabin with effortless ease, all of them tied together by Thelen’s impressive sense of song craft. “One Face” punctuates that fact most frequently and notably as it continuously shape shifts, never once losing its focus or the listeners attention. Drug Cabin is a predominantly acoustic release, which helps heighten the sense of raw emotion on display. Now that Marcus Congleton (formerly of Ambulance LTD) is a full-time member, it’ll be fascinating to see what’s next.
