Beaver Nelson’s Macro/Micro is one of the most intriguing releases I’ve had the pleasure of coming across this year. Not only because he’s cultivated his own unique sense of songwriting, but because of his visual sensibility as well, which is offered in a film accompaniment to Macro/Micro. He demonstrates not only impressive acting ability throughout the film, but a keen eye for composition and color. Most of Macro/Micro peddles a fascinatingly American take on weird folk/powerpop but as “I Wish That I Was Missing You Again” proves, he’s fully capable of breaking hearts with ballads. Though Macro/Micro sits at a somewhat bloated track count, it rewards close and repeated listens. A signature release from a truly unique artist.
