Forget the sleeve –– sure, the dog is beautiful but the whole thing has the vibe of a not-sold-in-stores record you remember from your youth –– and dive headlong into the pickin’ and grinnin’. Opener “The Distance Between Two Points” races by at breakneck speed (no small feat given that it clocks in at nearly six minutes), making way for a fine version of John Martyn’s “Walk To The Water” featuring The Infamous Stringdusters. Tim O’Brien lends a capable hand to “Follow The Drinking Gourd”, while Evans’ Beatles medley (“Mother Nature’s Son”, “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away”, “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” and “A Hard Day’s Night”) is far stronger than you might expect. Not a bad way to wind down the quiet hours.
