Boy Omega has released six records, four EPs, a pair of compilations and quite a few singles. The latest of those is the full-length Night Visions, perhaps his best work yet. He’s expanded his palette quite a bit but doesn’t sound uncomfortable and inhabits the new spaces of creation so well that it seems like he’s been making music of this variety all along. Long gone are the delicate acoustic arrangements adorned with horn and string sections. Mellotrons, electric guitars, synthesizers, and live drums are the driving force behind Night Visions and the results are uniformly strong. While Night Visions does have a tendency to lose its pacing, it’s more than made up for in the thrill of hearing a new direction so aggressively pursued and achieved. Boy Omega seems like he’s on the verge of something huge and this record has him only a few small steps away.
