Joanna Newsom fans at San Francisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival received a treat this weekend when the acclaimed harpist premiered a brand new song. Referred to by fans as “Look and Despair” (though that may not be the official title), the song appeared about halfway through Newsom’s set, which ran the gamut from The Milk-Eyed Mender opener “Bridges & Balloons” to Have One On Me epics “in California” and “Have One One Me”. It’s based around piano, roughly in the vein of “Soft as Chalk” or “Occident”.
