Totally Free Afropunk Festival Expands 2013 Lineup

The FREE Afropunk Festival returns to Commodore Barry Park on Aug 24 & 25 with Chuck D, Questlove, DEATH and many more.

The RSVP is now open for the 2013 Afropunk Festival, is occurring once again August 25 and 26th in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park from 12 to 9 pm. Tickets are entirely FREE but you need to RSVP via the link above. We’ve posted a list with most of the artists below but be if you plan to go, you’ll find there is much more than music to check out — a bike show (in addition to a BMX show has they had the prior year?), a model search and a rock climbing wall will also provide thrills. But the most important advise we can impart is that you should pick up a Fast Track Pass admission if you are planning to go for any or either of the days and don’t plan to arrive early. As I recall, there were tremendously lengthy and slow moving lines to get in last year so this would help you save some time. You can find images and coverage of last year’s fest here on PopMatters and more information on the festival below.

From the press release:

“Described by the New York Times as “the most multicultural festival in the US,” the word AFROPUNK itself has become synonymous with open-minded, non-conforming and unconventional, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music.

Living Colour (25th Anniversary performance), Wicked Wisdom (Jada Pinket Smith), White Mandingo’s (Murs, Darryl Jenifer [Bad Brains], Sacha Jenkins, Chuck Treece), and Pyyramids (Tim Nordwind of OK Go and Drea Smith of He Say/She Say) have all been added to the already epic lineup of Chuck D & DJ Lord (performing Fear Of A Black Planet), Questlove,DEATH, The Heavy, Trash Talk, Danny Brown, Saul Williams, Theophilus London, Vintage Trouble, The London Souls, The Coup, Mykki Blanco, K-OS, Big Freedia, Rye Rye, LE1F, Jean Grae, CX Kidtronik, The Dust Rays, The Skins, Meatloaf Muzik, Rebelmatic, Unlocking The Truth and Sunny Gang.”

The full Afropunk Festival lineup and other information can be found at the official site here and it is also the place where you can buy a fast pass admission.
