Dum Dum Girls have christened Halloween by unveiling the specs on their forthcoming third LP, pairing the announcement with the video for the record’s lead single.
The 10-song record, Too True, is due out January 27, 2014, in Europe and January 28 in the U.S. on Sub Pop. It is the follow-up to quartet’s last full-length, 2011’s Only in Dreams, and their 2012 EP End of Daze. It is produced by previous Dum Dum Girls collaborators Richard Gottehrer and the Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner.
Paired with the news is the video for the album’s first single, “Lost Boys and Girls Club”, directed by Cody Critcheloe.
Lead singer/songwriter Dee Dee made the announcement via a press release she penned and published on the group’s website on October 31st. In the release, titled “Too True: Chasing Pop Into the Dark”, Dee Dee recalls the creative process and adversities she faced in crafting the record, including a bout where she lost her voice as a result of touring. Inspiration from poets Arthur Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Anaïs Nin and Sylvia Plath and “spiritual parents” Lou Reed and Patti Smith helped Dee Dee regain her muse, she writes.
“Here it was spelled out for me: Desire as muse; Life as experiment; a miracle for every failure and vice-versa,” she writes. “I put pen to paper and I wrote, and then I sang.”
