With their performance video of “This Woman’s Work”, Los Angeles synth-based quartet Mirror Talk have unveiled the first installment in an ambitious project.
“We’re filming a series of live videos wherein each member of the group picks a song of some significance to them and we arrange, perform, film, mix and edit in a day,” said the group’s guitarist Steven Lopez. The cover of the Kate Bush tune maintains the original’s piano-led starkness, but adds a level of synthy ambience and the sexy, electronic vibe of a Prince ballad. The austere mood is matched by the single-perspective video, depicting the band’s shadowed profile with blues and purples coloring the background.
“This first cover was my choice,” Lopez said, adding he’s not sure what songs will follow. “We will be filming one very month, with the next one likely to be bassist Sean Krell’s selection. He’s talking about doing Björk’s ‘Joga,’ I think. Should be out early April.”
