If you’re a vinyl person, you’re in for a treat. If you’re not a vinyl person, then consider getting a turntable. For Record Store Day, the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey are unleashing the delightful Millions: Live in Denver on wax. There are jazz trios, and then there are these guys. Chris Combs’ guitar is doctored with echoes, wobbles and a host of other effects that flirt heretically close to post-rock. He and drummer John Raymer follow one another through these weeds as it’s up to Brian Haas to fill in the rest. With piano (electric and acoustic), a synth, and a bass Moog, Haas absolutely tears up the set. Even with all the swirls and pings butting heads, the music of Millions: Live in Denver never loses its groove and everything feels in its place. The energy isn’t lost on the crowd either. Picking a highlight is tough, but you can’t go wrong with “I Love Steve Haas” or “Grub Ridge Stomp”, giving you 10 minutes of fusion-fueled bliss. Too bad it’s a vinyl exclusive, because more people should have access to this.
