It took two years but they have returned with a mouthful in the form of a site-only double A-side digital maxi-single. Among the most nuanced bands to come out of the current Brooklyn scene, new songs “Wait for Teeth to Show” and “It Led to Nothing and Nowhere” are accompanied by two mysterious videos, band-made and fan-made, respectively. Of the “Wait for Teeth to Show” video, the Veda Rays singer (and the video’s director) James Stark has said, “Much of the subtext of the video alludes to an occult relationship between some of the correspondences of the 20th key of the Major Arcana (tarot). The idea of a larger cosmic alchemy at play, where the primal forces fulfill their roles brutally and impersonally.”
Similarly esoteric is the “It Led to Nothing and Nowhere” video, which features footage from occultist and filmmaker BJ Dini’s AMERICA! A PROPHECY! Part 5: FORBIDDEN ARCHAEOLOGIES OF THE AMERICAN DREAM.
Both singles are excellent, urgent slices of post-punk infused indie that, alongside the newer material the Veda Rays have been premiering at shows throughout the boroughs, promise a much brighter (but no less provocative) future.
