On Positive Distractions, Chicago’s Secret Colours present a mix of swirling psychedelic pop, Merseybeat melodies, and T-Rex swagger. Yes, this line of business was manned by the Dandy Warhols around the turn of the millennium, and by Love and Rockets a decade before them. In other words, there’s nothing new here. But that doesn’t mean the likes of the dreamy “Take It Slow” and the singsong, chug-a-lugging title track don’t come with their own simple pleasures. All in all, not a bad one to unroll your picnic blanket to.
