Since the band’s 2007 inception, the Delta Routine has stood as one of the Milwaukee area’s best hidden secrets in the realm of rock-and-roll. With an in-your-face attitude and unapologetic sentimentality, the electric quartet, featuring Nick Amadeus, Mike Hoffman, Evan Paydon and Kyle Ciske, never seemingly had it hard when trying to sell themselves as a rock band. By all means, their fourth studio release, You and Your Lion, continues the growing trend of an upwards rise for the band, embracing an expansion of their sound into some previously untraversed territories on top of it all. “Nothing on Me” opens with a Latin flourish of the acoustic guitar before shifting into punky electric palpitations, whereas Amadeus puts on his best country rock face on the clap-along track “Gone Again”. The blues-ridden “Dying Too” and the ethereal thrills of “You and Your Lion” make it an indie rock essential.
