If you don’t recall these guys from their highly accessible debut, I’ll do my best to remind you of who Subtle Lip Can are. Signed to the Canadian avant-garde label Drip Audio, guitarist Bernard Falaise, violinist Josh Zubot, and percussionist Isaiah Ceccarelli sound like a chamber group suffering a stroke — for 50-odd minutes.
Reflective Drime is about as accessible and catchy as their 2011 eponymous debut, which is to say, not at all. Its press release may draw parallels to Morton Feldman, Art Pepper and Stravinsky, but this is what music sounds like after it falls apart and the people who are late on the scene have nothing to do but kick around the various fragments in hopes that it will accidentally re-coalesce. Released during the cold, Reflective Drime has its mind on Canadian springtime. The set also receives bonus points for naming a song “Toss Filler Here”.
