Just after summer 2015 comes to a close, Minneapolis, Minnesota songwriter John Mark Nelson will drop his new record, I’m Not Afraid. PopMatters is proud to premiere the LP’s lead single, “Dream Last Night”, which is buoyed by a nice chord progression played through an electric guitar tone reminiscent of the snappy tones of Dire Straits picker Mark Knopfler.
Nelson tells PopMatters, “‘Dream Last Night’ explores the process of taking your first steps into adulthood, and realizing the complexity of balancing the expectations of your upbringing, with the realities that you are faced with. Caught between fear, and a desire to stand up for what seems true, ‘Dream Last Night’ is a driving anthem in response to the realization that nothing is ever as simple as it appears.”
I’m Not Afraid is out on 11 September via Gndwire Records, the a new label run by Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles.
