BC Camplight – “Grim Cinema” (video) (premiere)

The latest video from BC Camplight captures the eclectic songwriter's style in more ways than one.

After a pair of albums in 2005 and 2007 under the moniker BC Camplight, Brian Christinzo retreated from the public eye, moved from Philadelphia to Manchester, and returned this past January with the marvelous new record How to Die in the North. A wonderfully manic album, its Todd Rundgren-like ambition and energy is mirrored very well in the track “Grim Cinema”, which has just been released in the form of a fantastic video montage of vintage film footage from the early days of the motion picture.

“Well the past six months have been a maddening onslaught of euphoric stretches and gut punches,” Christinzo tells PopMatters. From the joy of returning to music to the lows of being booted out of my adopted home country and everything in between. I’m left with a bit of a constant half smile and pretty manic, racing thoughts. I told the director to do something that mimicked my mindset. It comes pretty close.”

How to Die in the North is out now on Bella Union.
