Timothy Scherman is currently Chair of the English Department at Northeastern Illinois University and President of the Elizabeth Oakes Smith Society. His essays on American literary and cultural history, postmodernism, and literary theory have appeared in journals such as Arizona Quarterly, Studies in 20th Century Fiction, and Paideuma. He is currently working on several projects, including a film, on the life and work of Elizabeth Oakes Smith.
