Justin Townes Earle – “Maybe a Moment” (Singles Going Steady)

Justin Townes Earle doesn't preach. He shows you how it's done as the words and lyrics invite gentle reflection.

Steve Horowitz: This simple song has a deep heart. Justin Townes Earle celebrates that we all have miracles in are lives every day that we take for granted: the love of another, the warmth of a friend, or whatever the wonders may be. The song shows us how to relax and enjoy the calm. Today could be the one you remember years from now as a happy time. Savor it. Earle doesn’t preach. He shows you how it’s done as the words and lyrics invite gentle reflection. [9/10]

Adriane Pontecorvo: A cute, middle-of-the-road ditty that sounds like something I’ve heard before. The video is a heartwarming one, focused on two girls hitchhiking and dancing their cares away, though Earle has been disappointingly reluctant to call them a couple in interviews. Maybe that’s the problem with this song: it’s shy about taking any kind of stand, musical or otherwise, and in the end, it falls flat, offending in its desperation to be inoffensive. [4/10]

Jedd Beaudoin: The first two or three Justin Townes Earle albums stand among my favorites of the last 10-15 years. The more recent ones have some great moments too. This seems like the Earle of old, the guy who had a whole bunch to say and could do so with interesting images and the power of his voice. A much better writer than you probably realize. [7/10]
