Lenore. is a female-fronted folk band that possesses a stellar blend of harmonic perfection and driving instrumentation in their music.
Describing themselves as “witch-folk”, the band was created after a chance meeting between singer-songwriters Rebecca Marie Miller (ex-Mynabirds) and Joy Pearson culminated into instant friendship. The group’s central theme is to challenge the patriarchal norms of the music industry, fueled by the challenges both of its founders had personally encountered throughout their journeys as artists up until now.
Rounding out the band are cellist Jessie Dettwiler and guitarist Edward Cameron. A slew of studio musicians helps round out the sound on their self-titled debut album releasing 15 September.
Their latest single from off of the record, “Heavy Eyes”, focuses on the band’s collective strength as a musical outlet. Driving cello and captivating retro roots guitar licks bookend the track. Gorgeous harmonies courtesy of Pearson and Miller act as the central point from which the sound evolves as the song evolves into its ascending bridge.
“I was talking with Reba about that moment when you meet someone that you just have some kind of energy with, that unspoken energy that changes the feel in the room,” says Pearson. “Once I sat down with the bass and that idea in mind the song came pretty quickly. Jessie’s moving cello line gives ‘Heavy Eyes’ the mood and groove that took the song across the finish line.”
