Americana’s Liz & Pete Cover the Postal Service’s “The District Sleeps Tonight” (premiere)

Liz & Pet offer a soulful take on “The District Sleeps Tonight” with their vocal blend offering a new interpretation of the ballad’s emotive atmosphere.

She’s Liz, and he’s Pete; they’re Liz & Pete. So this rising Tucson, Arizona Americana duo say whenever they first hit the stage. Both have a storied musical background. Liz Cerepanya is a warm-toned alto who has sung alongside several indie acts, including Peter Dalton Ronstadt’s The Co. In 2019, the artistic spark lit between the two in their first live collaboration. The duo have since gained a notable reputation in the desert music scene, garnering accolades like a headlining spot at the 2022 Tucson Folk Festival.

Liz & Pete bear numerous influences between them, from songwriters like Alan Garr and Pete’s father, Michael Joseph Ronstadt. Another is the Postal Service, who the duo took on during their recent Miller Canyon Mornings sessions. The duo offer a soulful take on “The District Sleeps Tonight”, with their vocal blend offering a new interpretation of the ballad’s emotive atmosphere. Ronstadt supplements the performance with some fine, folksy guitar playing.

“The District Sleeps Tonight” is the first in an ongoing collection of live performances released by Liz & Pete on their YouTube channel. Liz & Pete released Beautiful Strangers in 2021.
