Lullatone may have finally found its calling. Just over a year ago, the Nagoya, Japan-based husband and wife duo had their first child and promptly set about composing music for him. The results of those efforts appeared earlier this year on Songs That Spin in Circles, a collection of 10 loopable lullabies. To the band’s detractors — if such people exist — this must have seemed like a joke or an obvious criticism of the band’s dulcet electro-pop that it is nothing if not soporific. For the band, however, creating an album’s worth of lullabies was just another means by which to embrace its strengths. Those looking for an introduction to those strengths need look no further than the appropriately titled We Will Rock You … to Sleep, eight songs culled from six of the band’s releases. As it stands, it’s a great teaser for the band’s delicate, twinkling compositions and would feel equally at home on the shelf of a twee-pop fan or lining the impulse-buy rack at buybuy Baby. In this case, that’s not a bad thing at all.
