Though the collective music industry is going nuts looking for alternative revenue now that album sales are drying up and not getting off-set by digital sales? Writer Tony Sclafani provides exhibit A with this Florida Today article about various music publishing companies trying to squeeze money out of any tiny venue where the merest whiff of their music is heard (maybe they’re also taking notes from Soundexchange’s debacle where the labels and their surrogates look to kill off webcasters who won’t be able to afford to play their music anymore). Maybe ASCAP, BMI and friends should take a lesson from Getty and try to streamline and easy the burden rather than making it tougher and more expensive to get music heard.
