Myke Terry – “Slide” (video) (premiere)

The former metal vocsalist reinvents himself as an R&B/pop singer, and it's a perfect fit.

Myke Terry is best known for being the lead vocalist for metalcore band Bury Your Dead, who were modestly successful in the 2000s. After leaving the band in 2011, however, he gradually got his own solo career rolling, heading in more of a pop and soul direction, ditching the metal growling for singing. As you can hear on his new single “Slide” from his upcoming EP Red Handed (out 9 October, pre-order here) he’s headed in the direction of the Weeknd and Frank Ocean, and while it might be a shock to his metal fans, the style suits him perfectly. The accompanying video, directed by Meg Schmidt and featuring actress Ciarra Carter, only amplifies the intimacy of the song.

Asked about the song, Terry replies, “That moment when you realize that making up is way easier than breaking up and being alone…. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride and and do whatever it takes to make things right. Slide is my interpretation of the same situation.”
