British indie pop artist Nick Mulvey studied music in Havana, Cuba and then came back to London to focus on ethnomusicology at the University of London. During those years he hooked up with the musicians that would form Portico Quartet. In 2001, he went solo and released his debut, the 2014 Mercury Prize-nominated First Mind. In advance of his second record, Wake Up Now releasing September 8th via Harvest Records, Mulvey released his latest single “Mountain to Move”, an anthemic sing-a-long number that one can imagine huge concert crowds singing right back to him.
Mulvey has always been a very strong acoustic artist and now he’s released a pared down version of “Mountain to Move” that highlights the effectiveness of the song as well as brings a hootenanny vibe to the performance.
Mulvey says, “We made some stripped back versions of the new tracks. Going back into the same room at Real World studios where we recorded the album makes these Unplugged recordings all the more special. It was an intense session. We recorded and filmed five new arrangements in just one day. I don’t want to do that again in a hurry. I hope hearing these acoustic versions gives the lyrics more space to be even more direct. Hope you enjoy.”
