Love the Alabama Shakes and Brittany Howard? Then get ready to adore Terra Lightfoot, a roots rocker with a powerful voice and a badass Gibson SG that she plays with consummate ease. Yep, she could be your new rock ‘n’ roll hero. Drawing from rock, soul and blues, Lightfoot is a monster talent that will be gracing the world’s largest festival stages in no time. “Never Will” is the latest single from her recent album Every Time My Mind Runs Wild that released in April via Sonic Unyon and we’ve got the video premiere for you today.
Lightfoot takes PopMatters through the creation of the song and video: “I wrote ‘Never Will’ about that ideal lover that may never materialize — you might have feelings for someone, but sometimes you have to end it yourself before the chase begins. And you have to bask in the glory of those short moments of desire instead of pine for the future. It’s about overcoming your own insecurities, being confident in yourself and knowing you’re alright with or without that ideal lover, no matter how great their songs are.
“This was my first proper video and I was grateful to have the opportunity to work with director-cinematographer Christopher Mills. He’s done videos for Modest Mouse and Broken Social Scene and is an incredibly hard-working, humble and talented filmmaker. We had a complete blast on and around the shoot — we were successfully not kicked out of a local Thai restaurant that everyone gets kicked out of, and I very nearly got hit by a bus on the way to dinner during filming because I wasn’t looking when I crossed the street. Luckily one of the guys pulled me back onto the curb and I avoided death — and then we released this video.”
