In 1959 jazz guitar great Wes Montgomery played an exclusive performance at the Indianapolis Jazz Club in Indianapolis, Indiana with pianist Eddie Higgins and his trio backing him up. A recording of the set floated around among a very small group of insiders for decades before it was offered to Resonance Records for a proper remastering and release. With the permission of the Wes Montgomery Estate and Eddie Higgins’s widow Meredith D’Ambrosio, One Night In Indy (featuring the Eddie Higgins trio) will be released on vinyl as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday promotion on 27 November, and on CD on 15 January, 2016.
As a wonderful little teaser, the never-before-heard performance of the classic Rube Blom/Harry Ruby composition “Give Me the Simple Life can be heard below. A gentle yet lively nine-minute romp, it’s a tremendous showcase for both Montgomery and Higgins, not to mention as good an advertisement for this special recording as you could ever hope for.
